Welcome to a new way to move, learn, and experience life! Pilates is not just a series of exercises with the goal of getting you strong and limber (though these will be additional bonuses), but a whole-body approach to health, lifestyle, and fitness. This methodology, created by Joseph H. Pilates and originally called "Contrology", was designed with the intent to be a guiding force in helping people live in a healthier, happier way, amid the ever-growing chaos that pervades our daily lives. Pilates teaches us to connect more fully with our breath, enabling us to become and stay present in both the activities we take part in and those we share them with. Clients have reported less stress, better sleep, and the ability to move through their days with an ease that had not been present before. Many have noticed how their practice has re-trained them to slow down and become more mindful in all aspects of their lives, not just when they're on the Mat. Joseph Pilates passionately believed that his methodology was a whole-body lifestyle that anyone with the right mindset and focus can achieve, and I do too.
Expect to go slowly at first- you're not only learning a new way to move, but a new way to understand how you move. A slower pace in the Pilates method also engages and challenges the body better as it allows you to concentrate on the breath connection needed for the best results- Pilates is about FOCUS and CONTROL! Feel free to ask questions if something doesn't make sense though; you're learning a new movement style, what the lingo and cueing mean, and how to correctly feel it in your body. I view the lessons as a collaborative experience to help you build the mind/body connection to get the most out of each movement, so always feel open to share concerns or ask questions. It's your practice!
Each new client, duet, and group will receive an initial free consultation and movement analysis to go over any medical issues, injuries/surgeries (current or previous), and physical movement history necessary for assessment. The movement analysis is used to find current ranges of motion, spinal flexibility, and strength limits. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us!
